My mother found this at a Goodwill store the other day and asked me to post it here to see if we can find out more about it, like what it was used for and how old it might be. Any help would be appreciated. Ive included several different photos so you can see how it was made. I believe it does have some age on it, probably from the first half of the 20th century, but I could be wrong.

it's hand thrown , so if it was made in the 1920s it would have been made in a rural aria. I would put it in 1880s or 90s. mid west.

Nice find, especially for $2. That damned sharpie strikes again... :BangHead:

Yes, I dont know why people do that. That must have been from the last yard sale or thrift shop this thing turned up at, before it ended up at the Goodwill.

Thank you so much. I had a feeling it might be older than the 20th century. I have some old stoneware ink bottles from the 1800s that are very similar in make, with the imperfections and so forth.

Hydrogen peroxide should remove that no problem, just pour some into a shallow plate or pan and let the pitcher sit in it...

Milk pitcher.

I would think a 1920's-present date is more accurate. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade or anything. Just trying to inform. These are pretty common (cobalt banded) pitchers. Marshall pottery actually makes one very similar still today. I currently have the smaller version. Unfortunately, they don't sell for that much, usually around $20. I still like it though and it was a good find. Here is one just about identical, including the flaws... https://www.etsy.com/listing/225628866/classic-styled-pottery-pitcher?ref=sold_out-12
