We found this over the weekend. While rinsing it off I could make out some letters on the edge. Any help would be appreciated! IMG_20181001_171402_658.webpIMG_20181001_171425_959.webp

Pot metal. Curtain weight?

I found a strip like that a few weeks ago. It's for printing similar to moveable type, but instead of individual letters this would have been a block of wording that would have been printed very frequently. The one I found was part of a return address for a business and may have been from a hand-stamp.

I can't tell from your photo, but, if it was part of a printing process, the letters would be backwards.

I wish I could get a really macro pic of the letters. The lettering is backwards. Wonder if I should try an ink pad?

It's called "Linotype", sure dab it on an ink pad and press it on paper.

I would confirm that it is a part of a linotype slug. We have a linotype machine in our museum printshop. suggest it be marked 'solved'

Thank you, but I have to admit some lack of knowledge. How do you mark a thread "solved"?
