Oh man, if I even thought about trying flint knapping, my wife would shoot me for all the additional rocks that would be on our kitchen table, ha ha! These are pretty cool though Up-North. They tell me there’s a pretty steep learning curve!

I’ve found a few clunky gross points in my day, I’ve often wondered if the were practice, or maybe used as more of a blunt.

Yea - more than a few of those are in my collection too.

Later cultures flint knapping was not as refined and exquisite as earlier.

One would think that as eons progressed, flint knapping skills would as well, but that is not what appears to have occurred.

Whereas earlier cultures relics had collateral and other flaking techniques with fine pressure flaking of the edges, later often employed random percussion flaking without much pressure flaking.

Then other the other end of the spectrum you could have a well made flaked tool which after the abuse and use, is just beat every which way to Sunday and looks very rough.

Still good finds!! I always thought knapping was like anything else, there's Pros, there's so-so. and some just can't do it!!!

Nice finds! I am not a knapper and have no desire to knap stone, but have a good friend that does. He makes beautiful points from obsidian, bottles, flint and old tv screens. I asked if he could make some from quartz and he just said "those boys were good!" So with that said, can some of the top knappers on here show some of their points they made from similar material as above or quartz? Is my friend not as good as I think he is or is there something to it?
