Some more TD bank questions

I stopped by a TD bank yesterday to check for half dollars and big dollar coins. They didn't have any but the teller said she could probably order me both half dollars AND big dollar coins. She said she would have to find out for sure and asked me to call her back. I called the bank today and spoke to a 2nd teller and she confirmed that they could order me a $1000 box of half dollars but I didn't think to ask her about the big dollar coins. I went ahead and ordered the $1000 half box which I will get next week.

I've only bought $500 String flat boxes and $500 brinks bags and I was wondering if anyone had bought $1000 boxes before and what kind of boxes these might be. Are they just double String flat boxes? Also if they are able to order me some big dollar coins (Ike's I'm sure) would it be worth it to place an order at least once to see if I might be able to get any keepers? I'll have to call them back to confirm for sure if they are really able to order me the big dollar coins and whether they come in boxes or bags and how much they are. Even if they are all clad Ike's maybe I could try selling some or all of them for a small profit if they are in decent condition instead of just dumping them at my dump bank.

Odds are your "$1000 box" will be 2 $500 boxes. Most banks have a $1000 minimum when it comes to ordering halves.

As for the Ikes, no one can answer that question but you. Its possible that you'll find a 40% Ike. If you're super lucky, a Morgan or Peace. Most likely, they'll all be clad. It is possible you could sell clad Ikes for a small premium. Check eBay to get an idea of how much of a premium, and keep in mind that eBay keeps 12% of that amount. Another thing to consider: if you take 1000 Ikes to your dump bank, you may very well lose a dump bank.

i've never seen a box over $500, my understanding is that bags of halves come in $1000 sometimes.

TD, as a matter of corporate policy, will no longer order half dollars. It's not even an available option for them when they attempt to place their order.

There was apparently an internal email that went around last year where the people at TD that make the rules said there was no legitimate purpose for half dollars and as such they would no longer order them for customers.

This is why they are my primary dump bank.

TD wont order halves or dollars for regular customers in westchester NY any more.

It looks like I'm not going to get my "$1000 half box" order either. I called back yesterday and spoke to the same person I spoke to on Tues. who said she would order me the halves for next week. Apparently the bank just can't order halves like db23 said. But the teller was really nice and even said she would call around and check if any other TD banks might have any halves I could buy which I figured might be good because the other TD banks in town won't even talk to me about coins because I don't have an acct with them. That's why I was kind of suprised this TD bank offered to order me some halves without even asking me if I had an acct there.

But now I'm curious about this WF bank that seems to get customer half dollar bags on a regular basis. A couple of weeks ago a teller at this bank said they had a $500 half bag that a customer had brought in. I was thinking it was probably a dump and I didn't really have the money at the time so I told her I would check back with her about it. The next week another teller told me they had got rid of it. Today I was at that same bank asking for halves and another teller told they had 5 $500 half bags that a customer had brought in. I'm figuring these are just dump bags but maybe I should just buy a bag to get some idea of what they are and if I can find any keepers of course. I was at another WF bank today also that had over $700 in rolls in their vault and I was figuring it was a dump so I just bought a couple of rolls and sure enough the rolls and some of the coins were marked and I even asked the teller if all the rolls looked like the ones I bought and he said yes so I don't plan on going back for the rest of those. I fugure I would likely have the same luck with the $500 bags @ this other WF bank too. I never really have much luck with big cwr half dollar searches like these - but I've never searched a customer bag before but I am figuring my luck would be about the same with those too. I can usually smell a skunk in these types of situations and so far that has always been the case.
