Metal Detecting
Just got back from opening up our upstate New York mountain camp and managed to do a little metal detecting. Found an old hunting knife buried deep under a large rock, a 1928 wheat cent literally in the middle of nowhere on the side of the mountain, an old Harris Suspender Co. suspender clip circa early 1900s, an old filtered gas can lid, 2 mason jar lids with BOYD'S porcelain mason jar lid inserts, an old Remington 22 shell casing, and 2 old shotgun shell heads circa early 1900s - a REM UMC NO 16 NITRO CLUB and a WESTERN FIELD NO 12. Those lid inserts are tough find intact, and love the old knife! Good finds.

Very cool, , you going to clean up that knife??
Congrats

Just goes to show you can find good stuff anywhere! Keep it up!

Nice to see you employ the detector in the woods. You just never know what your gonna dig out there. Congrats on pulling those targets. Bet you had very little trash to contend with.

That knife is cool, surely some other stuff there. Nice finds!

Good finds and congrats! Never know what lies under the surface of the dirt - any way thanks for sharing the pictures will all of us & wishing you many more while out dirt fishing.

I might clean up the knife (against the wind) and the trash was literally non-existent (Loco). Thanks to all for the nice comments!

I've been told to use cider vinegar on old knives. Just soak the blade though for about a week.

Now that is quite the assortment of neat old stuff right there. Ain't detecting fun? lol lb
