Very nice... Quite a few more than what I found this year... I can't complain though

Just curious what's that big silver thing in the middle? Cool

looks like I gotta get out of the big cities to find the good stuff.

Hey Matt, you should come to St Cloud.....been detecting here for many snows and there are a lot of nice places to detect.

thanks I'll keep that in mind:thumbsup: I think all the places around here are either loaded with trash or gone over a hundred times already!!!

That would be a toasted Morgan dollar that had been through a very hot house fire about 60 years ago. The obverse with the date was obliterated, but you can make out some reverse details and an "O" mintmark !

Matt, your area pre-dates where I live by about 75 years, so theoretically there should be tons of goodies still yet to be found down your way. I see more opportunities to knock on the doors of old homes .. the possibilities are endless. 8-)

Goose .... I will be down to see you in the spring ! :laughing7:

The first photo is when I hit 50. Here is my actual total for 2012. I think I made it to 67 .. enjoy !

Spring sounds good. There is going to be a big neighborhood (early 1900s) reconstruction taking place.....roads, curbs, new & replacing sidewalks, etc. In spring, I always go to the city's engineering dept. (I know someone there) and get prints of the area and what's going to be done. The large 'reconstruction' of a neighborhood from 2011 lasted through 2012....good finds.

MNcoinhunter,

Congrats on a great year! I'm wouldn't ask you where you detect but I'm wondering if you might give a newer guy any tips? The parks seem to be all picked over. I've tried some old farm houses and such but don't find much of anything.

Parks can be tough. We have one up here that is around 100 years old where I have only pulled maybe 4 silver dimes in 3 years. Is it hunted out? Hard to say because I do find something every time I go there, just not in great quantities. You are on the right track with the old farm houses ... and you are also discovering that there is no motherload there either. At the farm houses, I would try to pin down where the outhouse might have been, if there was one. The path leading to and from may hold some treasures for the obvious reasons. Another is to locate the clothesline, or where one might have stood once. I have always found a coin or two under them. And another is the chicken coop if there ever was one. More than a few old-timers would stash their money in the coop because if anyone came poking around the chickens would give them away. A guy on another forum found a 10 ounce silver bar recently that was buried in a chicken coop. It's there. And some places just don't have anything at all .. the nature of the game I guess. Mind if I ask what type of detector you are using? And what part of the world where you are living?
