I'm pretty sure its pewter its harder than any lead that I've seen. I think if shined up it would be a Weimeraner dog. Interestingly enough it was found at a lead factory, can they harden lead?

Nice finds, I like the eagle buttons!

Very Nice!

Awesome finds, congrats! Looks like a bloodhound taking a crap, LOL. HH and thanks for the pics, Mike

Was there ever a market for crapping dog sculptures???

I think I have seen that button in Alberts book, Its a New York Militia I Think

Re: Naughty Dog

The metal dog appears to be one of those made for use with a type of novelty fireworks. If you have ever seen "snake egg" pellets— the kind which, when lit, smolder and extrude a long, glowing coil of ash resembling a snake or rope— imagine one of those inserted in, and its ash emanating from, the backside of the dog. If there is a small cavity in the dog where such a pellet could be placed, then that's what you've got.

Now that is a neat find. You can add tin, and I think antimony, to lead to make a harder alloy.

Are you serious PBK, as my Daughter would say "thats just wrong"

Nice digging!!
Your New York state seal button could be Civil War period or later depending on design and backmark. A better pic and the backmarks would help to pin it down.

PBK does it again! When you get the light just right and you look up through the dog (Doesn't sound right, does it) I see the 4th of July!
