Yes, definitely test it. Mighty pretty white color there! Great find by the way :)

I like "inkwell cover".

What do you mean by "testing" it? I do believe that may be what it is!

With a precious metals test kit with stone, do a couple lines of scratches on the stone, and use the 18k gold test solution. If it is silver, it will almost shine bright blue.

I believe every detectorist should have a test kit, pretty cheap on Amazon, $15 or so.

We accumulate things which are beneficial to the hobby of metal detecting.

In addition to a test kit, you'll need a scale of measurement in grams. Then there's a microscope with camera for close up pics of the finds. I've two - one on a fixed stand with adjustment up and down for focus, and one with a flexible stand so I can adjust the height - my desk has a keyboard tray, and and the desktop is 5 1/2" above the keyboard base. I've found over time I need both.

Clean coffee cans are great for keeping finds, have one for each type of find, and a box for the relics.

I'm thinking either face cream as mentioned, or face powder.

Looks to me like the top to an old walking cane... especially if it fits nicely into the palm of your hand.
