Ok I know it is a knob, well I think so anyways. It is about 2 and a half inches long, porcelain ended in a brass fitting with a unthreaded shaft of what appears to be steel and not cast iron.I thought a drawer pull, seen these before but the long shaft ....and no threads, has me thinking elsewhere.I thought typewriter associated or lever to an old car instrument stick. Maybe one of you sharp eyed sleuths will recognize it.Was found where there was an old auto shed on the 22 Sanborn Map. A old car jack was found there too and can't make out the maker's name on it. That is in a different thread. Thanks vn

Looks like the older doorknobs to me.

It would have been a very small doorknob. It is only three quarters of an inch in diameter at the knob part.

Vending machine "pull" knob...

Like one of the old cigarette vending types... but ? ? ?

Choke knob?

It may be possible but the porcelain end fitting seems a bit extravagant for such. I thought maybe a door lock knob or turn signal, something seen, but not sure old cars back then had either.

Reminds me of an old pull-type headlight switch

Maybe a piston valve for a cornet, trumpet or some other brass musical instrument?
Not sure why that pops into my head. A tuba maybe?

I think it's a safe assessment to say it's an early automobile dash board knob since it is not threaded and was found in an area that had an old auto shed, plus an old car jack was found in the same area. Below is a photo of some repro dash knobs.

I agree, most likely a pull type knob from an automobile. Thanks Breezie and all for the help. Now to find the year and make of the automobile:laughing7:

Post a photo of the old jack, and that might lead us in the right direction.

Thanks for the kudos, but BOTB and Benz nailed it earlier; I just put the bow on the package. :)

The jack is in a different thread and Mackaydon put that one together for me, but, yes, thanks to everyone, it usually is a joint effort by more than one. I think all you guys and gals are alright...what a team we are.
