Hello all, found this today detecting a backyard that backed up a a canal. The yard is too a commercial property but the town and neighbors have history as far back as 1800. Any clue on date and type of buckle? I think it pewter or a copper alloy
Reminds me of the hand guard (tsuba) to a Japanese sword, with the chrysanthemum design. That seems pretty unlikely based on the shape of the opening in the middle, but funny similarity. I think we may have seen items like this that were hair buncher-uppers, oriental in design, and late Victorian like GAP suggested.
Just for the sake of comparison to something it's probably not: http://www.google.com/search?sclien......0...1c.1.64.tablet-gws..11.0.0.YcH-8Db_2Mg
I was thinking 1890's as well as the canal was hand dug during the 1890's and the big boom of inhabitants of the town was in the 1890's as well. A hair tie makes sense too. I think I failed to find the whole item I kept searching the hole for about 30 mins but couldn't find that piece.
