Is it possible to guess an unidentified item before PBK does? It looks like its from an old animal trap.

I wouldnt take my word for it... just a guess... You should post this in the "What is it" section. :)

some type of horse bit maybe...or just an all purpose chain for hanging a light or soemthing.

I would agree with the trap chain except for the rings on both sides.I think it's a gate chain.I have never saw a horse bit made of chain, nor any of it's accessories. It looks to be an "old" chain whatever it turns out to have been used for.Cool find.I hope you find some more stuff in your yard to post on here.Good luck.

Just crusing and I saw the photo.
It looks like a CHOCKER CHAIN used on dogs.
I have 2 large dogs-1 is a Great Dane and the other is a large PITBULL. i USE THIS TYPE OF CHAIN to make sure they will not pull me down the street.
The Pitbull is 125 pounds and the Great Dane is 155 pounds.
When I am in my wheelchair I walk only one dog at a time. :o ::)
