You can detect in National Forests for coins but digging an archaeological site is prohibited. If you find a site you are supposed to report it.

“He made posts on social media about his archaeological finds.”

I can’t help but wonder at what point in the process it seemed like a good idea to document his crime and then share the documentation on social media? I guess he’s never heard the saying that the only way three people can keep a secret is if two of them are dead.

And then , don't go to a bar drinking and bragging about where / what /and when what you've done ! Even if it is / was legal and on your property! Somebody for sure would end up on your property looking and digging! The old saying " lose lips sink ships" applies to this !
