This place defined my childhood. It started out as a Picnic/swimming park in the early 1900's, camping was added later on. We camped there from the early 70's through 1982 - had a permanent site for 4-5 years. The building to the right of the pool was a game room, snack bar, general store and there was rooms to rent on the second floor. There was a board walk that ran along the pool.

I had the best times of my life here. It was a place my family would come but us kids would have the run of the place. They used to stock the creek every Saturday morning, we'd try all day to catch fish using hot dogs as bait. Girls everywhere. The best of days!

It's currently called Mountain Pines Campground, a shell of what it used to be. The building by the pool was torn down in the 90's.

I've often thought of what's in the dirt around the pool. The soil hasn't been touched.... ever. I can imagine all the stuff people lost in the dirt.

It goes way back. The 70's were the hey days. They used to have an Olympic weekend, had running, long jump, swimming.... it was great. Every age group had 30 kids competing. I took the family back about 10 years ago for the new "Olympic weekend", there was 6 kids, 3 were mine. Times have changed, not for the better.

I think it was originally called Maple Grove back when it was opened. When we camped there it was called Cutty's then it was sold and called Maple Grove Campground. There's a facebook page with a bunch of photos.

If you work that grass around the pool you'll hit the motherlode.

The pool is fed from the creek, it's almost always balls cold. If there was a dry spell the water level would drop and once a summer someone would be hauled out of the pool on a stretcher cause they dove off the diving board and hit their head on the bottom.
