Can anyone give me any idea's on the type of coin this is ?

The date seems to be gone,,, just like to know era of date.

Found on old fairgrounds about 5" deep.

It's a Union of South Africa 1/4 penny (farthing), c. 1937-52. South Africa was a dominion of Great Britain at that time, hence the portrait of George VI.
