Hello Korban,

When it is unstable you will start get a lot of false signals, (constant tones every so many seconds with no target).

If you give us a little more information it will help. Where are your hunting when you experience this, beach or land, parks, playgrounds, near high power lines and so on. What are your settings at, (auto, or where on the dial in a clock position), and what coil are you using?

When it becomes unstable look to see if there is anything around you can see that can cause this, like power lines, anything electrical. If not then try adjusting your sense down a little bit till it becomes stable.

Hope that helps some, post a little more information and I am sure someone can help you more.................

With the Excal and Sov GT, they can null on iron and also sound off on a target under the iron or very close to it. It takes practice to know when this happens.

On the unstable threshold, it is as Treasure Hunter explained. Lately other electrical transmitters can affect the detectors in some locations. I know of one beach where no detector can operate because of instability of all the detectors I took there. I am ready to just use a sand sifter to search, but that is more like work, a four letter word.

If your threshold instability is caused by whats under the coil, dig and let us know what you found. Just make sure your instability isn't caused by something electrical under the coil.
