I received my new GT Thursday after 2 months of backorder, charged the battery and got up Fri. morning to play with it, only to find out it was defective! I put in the battery, turned it on and it made a high pitched weird sound ( iv used sovereigns before and know what it should sound like) I took out the battery, put it back in and now nothing, no sound no indication of power,I tried everything, its obviously a defective machine, I was bummed big time, luckily my dealer has another in stock to send me. anyway my question is I noticed there was no V clip on the upper rod for the meter, which I have ordered and yes, is backordered as well ( I think minelab needs to put a Help Wanted out, their product demand outweighs their staff ) so how am I going to mount the meter? has the design changed of the meter or do I have to purchase the V clip as well and how the heck to you attach it? Their normally attached with rivets! I want it on the upper rod, not the handle as some do.

I don't understand what you mean by mounting it on the upper rod and not the handle. My V clip is is on the upper rod. I have my Sov GT mounted in a bag carryed from my neck and in the other pocket I have the inline Sunray probe. I used to carry the meter there with the addition of the extention cable.

Hey Treasurechic,
I have seen other posts asking the same questions you have about how to mount the meter.
Apparently, the "V" clip does not come with the Sovereigns anymore and have to be ordered seperately.
They do attach with pop rivots which is no problem except you have to have the pop rivot gun.
I bought my Sovereign last Jan. a year ago and it had the "V" clip mounted to the shaft.
There should be two small hole predrilled in the upper shaft for attaching the clip for the meter.
I believe I have seen the clip advertised for a couple of dollars.
Hope this helps,
Felix

How are you going to carry the sov? I am mostly a water hunter, but I do hunt land with it too, I wear the controls from my neck.

I have seen some great setups where they use a small tool bag from Home Depot or Lowes, box goes in one pocket of the pouch and the meter goes in the other pocket...

Check out this lnk, there is a better view but I am unable to find it at the moment.....

Thanks for the advice everyone, Kellyco did get back to me and said that from now on the GTs will NOT come with the V clip, ( the nice lady who replied wasnt even aware of it) you need to purchase it separately. In my opinion the V clip should come with the meter when you purchase it if its not coming on the rod anymore, considering what the meter costs. I plan on ordereing a V clip and just using some Gorilla glue on it, that stuff is tough. I guess the advantage to this is you can put your meter where you want on the rod.

Well i have used Gorilla glue it is tough...... But some things i have glued with it after being in the hot sun for a time came apart....... It just turned back to a liquid and when it got cool it harden again...... But by then they came apart.... You can pick up a good revit gun at harbor freight for only $6.00 up to $15.00..............

Yeah do not use Gorilla glue ! It will not hold in the hot Sun and it will come off if you go out in very cold weather .
This stuff does not stick well to any smooth metal !

Use a Epoxy that is rated better , and it does not have to cost a lot .
I found that you have to ruff up the metal surface with sand paper first , and that will help quite a bit.

One would think that as much as that part cost and knowing it goes on the rod they would send the mounting clip with the unit .
That type of sale's of a piece at a time to make a whole really bothers me .

I really like there Detectors and they work well , but I am waiting to see the outcome on how they are going to do things with there units before I make a solid judgment on Minelab .

Like i said before i think the Sovereign is on the way out........ Just like the Musketeer raise the price then it does not sell ...So discontinue it.............And i saw here that they are to quit makeing some extras for it......

thats nice of you Ralph... :icon_thumleft:

That is what customer service is all about! thank you soooo much for the offer, Sun Ray! I think Minelab is crazy to get rid of the Sovereign it is in a class by itself, and too many people swear by them, look at all the people in the UK who wont use anything else!

I Can't Imagine they would Discontinue BBS

REdo the Whole Package
to look like an X-terra Maybe,
But not Discontinue.

Minelab is NOT discontinuing the Sov GT or the Sovereign line....I just talked to VP of Minelab and he assured me it is a false rumor and Minelab is keeping the Sovereign GT and Sovereign line.......This comes from the VP of Minelab for America :icon_thumright:

I just want to thank Ralph Sun Ray for his generous offer, he is actually shipping me the clip today at no charge just to be a nice guy! you dont get much of that anymore. This is one guy who we should all deal with in the future! As far as the Sovereign I figured it would be crazy for minelab to do away with it, but i agree that a new design wouldnt hurt. Who knows that could be going on right now.

Thanks for posting this link. I want to either hip or chest mount the controls for my Sovereign and this set up looks like something that would work sweet.

I just want to thank Ralph Sun Ray again for the free V clip, I received it and it was sooo easy to install, I borrowed a rivet tool and installing the rivets was a snap! they couldnt have done it better at the factory. Now to find a meter..... I had one on back-order but it could be months before I get it, thats too long. If anyone knows of someone with one for sale or a dealer that has one in stock please let me know!
