Spanish 1/2 Real Cob - Philip IV 1621-1665 & 1808 Draped Bust 1/2 Cent in same day!
So after a 2 year hiatus from detecting I decided to upgrade from my Whites IDX PRO to the DFX and get back in the game. After picking up a used DFX for $425 bucks on Craigslist I was off to some of my old hunting grounds at an old farm field. Only 5 minutes into the hunt I dug my first whole which was a solid 44. After some searching I pulled this Spanish 1/2 Real Cobb out of dirt! The cob seems to be in really great shape for its age. I'm assuming it was lost not long after it ended up in New England. As you can see the edges have all been clipped. From what I looked up online I believe it to be a Philip IV (1621-1665) Mexico City minted 1/2 Real. I don't really know much else beyond that. If anyone else knows more than I do please share. As the hunt continued I found a musket ball, a couple nice civil war era bullets, some nice buttons, and a 1808 Draped Bust Half Cent which a plow unfortunately found before I did. All in all I think it was a pretty good day back in the saddle. Cant wait to see what else I can find with this DFX!
