Got out today in between stops at work. Hunted maybe an hour or so and pulled this beauty out!!!

From what I can tell it's a Spanish American war vet medal this specific group of soldiers fortunately never seen battle. Pretty neat!

A couple of other points: Ten companies ("A" through "K") composed the 8th PVI. Your recipient mustered into Federal service on May 12 (as per your medal)--so he wasn't from Company "G" (Cumberland County) which mustered in on May 11. Second; the source I gave you mentioned: "The Eighth Pennsylvania would remain in service until March 7, 1898,.......". Actually, I believe that year should be 1899 since the war didn't officially end until Dec. of '98.

I'm still trying to figure out how it made its way to Northern Indiana lol
