Spanish American war sword... Any information...

I would love any information. Found this at a yard sale. The older gentlemen said it was from the time frame. I have a small antique store and I wonder what I should sell it for??

It is a U.S. Model 1872 cavalry officers sword. It was regulation pattern for cavalry officers between 1872 and 1902. As far as value goes, I can only suggest that you search the internet and see what others sell for. Yours is missing the original leather and wire wrapping on the handle, which will lessen it's value.

Woah. That's a good price.
Look at what dealers sell similar for and not what they sold for at auction...
Swords in general are quite undervalued still, IMO . May be worth holding onto for a little while.

Thanks, I saw a similar one on eBay sell for 150. It seems like it would sell in my store for around 300. Thank you for your post!!

The makers mark will be where the blade and the guard meet. Inspectors marks will be on the guard as well as the blade by the guard.
