Spanish Bell. Natural or carved?

I have been going back and forth if this is natural or a Spanish symbol. Please let me know what you think. I haven’t seen anything like it in any of the rocks around the area.

This is in sandstone rock a couple feet above a dry wash. This is somewhat close to a known area that has some Spanish symbols.

If it is real, any thoughts on what the meaning is?

Agreed, not much lichen on the open section compared with the rest of the rock. Also, some of the edges (especially the bottom edge) look to be along a natural fault line.
