Metal Detecting
There are lots of threads about lost treasure but this won't be one. While detecting an old gold mine site in New south Wales I found a crusty coin shaped piece of metal that gave off confusing ID numbers. I actually was lucky to detect it at all as the ground is heavily mineralised and I was using my X-Terra 705. I took it home and soaked it for several days. When I cleaned it up I found it actually was a coin. A Spanish Blanco from between 1470 and 1474 (According to some more knowledgable than me.) There were no other coins found. I learned that the reason I was probably able to find it was that it contains small amounts of gold and/or silver. Not very valuable. Maybe $20.00.
