Spanish Military Adornment - Any id's?

This was found in Santa Barbara (not by me). It is
definitely spanish 1650-1800's. Anyone have any ideas on EXACTLY what this is?
It has an area where a pin was on the back and it is probably a type of military uniform adornment, but I would like an exact description if possible. Thanks.

Double dated coin indicating change in rulers. (Coins were remarked when another ruler would take over).

Re: Spanish Military Adornment - Any id's?

Thanks, that is where I got most of the info I could find already.
Still looking for other spanish coin and relic sites that show pics if anyone knows of any others. That site is awesome, but doesn't have enough pics of "stuff" I have about 30 pieces that need id'ing.

If you haven't yet contacted John Powell, curator of the artifacts.org online museum, I would encourage you to do so. Not only is he highly knowledgeable about Spanish colonial period militaria, but he's also very "detector friendly."

without seeing the other side...is this close?
otherside.jpg

#8 post my guess late 1700s, 1780-90.....maravedis.

post #9/10 is a copper Cuartos...minted in Spain "ceca de Cuenca" - C being the mint...maybe OX to the right
#8 definitely later time period than the other maravedis and cuartos, looks Charles III.
#5/6 is what is known as a Resellos...meaning a re-valued maravedis.
The reales...you know about.
I wonder why such a diverse time period....where they all found within the same depth? or some deeper than others?

Re: Spanish Military Adornment - Any id's?

Yes, Post #8 is definetly Spanish, probably a 2 or a 4 Maravedis (I would know if I knew the size of the coin). Minted from 1770. In its condition, its probably worth about $5, although it depends on the date a little. Great old find though!

Re: Spanish Military Adornment - Any id's?

Thanks for the help. I actually bought this stuff from a guy who has alot of Spanish artifacts. He said they came from a place in Santa Barbara, but I am inclined to believe that he may have bought them from a local coin dealer who got them from possibly florida? It seems that, as one of you pointed out that the dates do vary greatly, but I am still very much interested in the first item I pictured. I don't think anything real fishy is going on besides this guy's story who is selling the stuff. It may be that he is embellishing it a little to get more sales, but the fact remains, these are still nice original pieces that are really cool.

Is that a few specks of gold gild on the face of the adornment?
