I just got home from a very good weekend of Civil War relic hunting, I'll clean up my finds and post them asap. I would however love to get some input on what looks to be a very small/thin piece of Spanish Silver that I found on the site. Thanks, JB

It's a silver Spanish cob. Nice find!!

Late 1600s half real from Potosi:occasion14:

Very very nice! :occasion14:

oh man that's sweet

That’s a nice looking Spanish cob (colonial era). Great find!

Super!!!! Congrats!!!!!

Nice cob, looks like you might have an earlier site under that CW one. (more clues needed)

That’s a beauty!!!!!! Congrats, still on my list

that's a REALLY great find and weird it was on a civil war site???

Very nice find. Great piece.

Nice cob. I know they were still using milled Spanish silver coins during the Civil War, but I doubt they were still using cobs. It's probably associated with an earlier site nearby.

Congrats on the Cob
Probably a case of an earlier site under the Civil war site, like others have stated.
Mid 1800's and Don dated it as 1697-so that could give a window of 150 yrs pre CW era.
That's what makes this hobby so interesting is the endless possibilities of finding older from what a site might produce.

The only other item that I thought might be pre CW was this buckle piece....the spot was about 500 yards from a CW era road...I'll do some research. Thanks.

Broken in half Spec. Buckle.
100% pre-CW. Spectacle buckles are pretty hard to date, many of them 17th C or earlier. (most we find in the UK are 16th C & came off the leather boot, the more you had up the boot, the richer you were) They were the medium size ones, you get anything from tiny to massive sizes.
However, they stretch in to the 18th C which I think yours is due to the iron pin & size. Some being IDed as Rev War period Sling Buckles, but there are other uses.
