Just came out of the ground today.Ive been told it could be spanish/mexican.Any help would be appreciated.

Congratulations on a really great find. Definitely a Spanish silver cob coin. I’m no expert but it looks like the shield of Philip II so that would make it 1556-1598. From the picture if your hand is average size it might be a 4 reale or half Spanish dollar. It looks like the side markings might be worn off so the only way to tell the value is by weight.

This is a piece of eight.

8 reales = 27.3 grams on average.

It has been clipped at some point.... which was common practice in those days.
