Just a year ago I got an idea while at work that I might enjoy digging up some old coins. Funny how things just come to you sometimes. ;D I dusted off the kids Walmart special metal detector, put two fresh 9 volts batteries in it and went out in to our yard on a mild day in January and the first thing I dug was a quarter! After an hour or so i had a pocketfull of clad and thought to myself "theres something pretty cool about pulling money out of the dirt".
I found this T-net forum where I've met so many nice people and have learned so much, lurked for a couple months and finally saved enough for a DFX and started a serious attempt at finding some old one room schoolhouses and homesites in the area.
For me a lot of the enjoyment from this hobby has been the research. Without it, a lot of these coins and relics would still be in the ground . Old maps and some tips from old timers and T-netters have been my best resources for finding old sites.
First picture is some of my favorite relics.

Wow you had an incredible season, whats the item in the second picture down, lower right hand corner?

Enjoyed your posts and finds, Jerry. Wives just don't understand. Men do men's things and women do women's things. My wife keeps bugging me to take her to the movies, but after 34 years of marriage she knows my intentions pretty well. That last coin was a dandy  I like those old scissors too. Great collection and hope 09 will be great for the both of us :D Ron

Wow some nice finds for sure can you post a pic of the coin in the right hand lower corner /the star cool find HH RonC

You did great this year Jerry! WTG on all the finds and hope you have a productive '09.

Your right about the coin Ed. The coin flip is actually labeled Nova Caesarea 1787 on top but is cropped out of this picture. The incredible coincidence about this coin is that i found it on Sept 17th,2008 exactly 221 years to the date that the constitution was adopted! This coin caused me to learn a lot about our early history and i finally learned what "e pluribus unum" means (one composed of many) What year is yours?

On September 17, 1787, the Constitution was completed in Philadelphia at the Federal Convention, followed by a speech given by Benjamin Franklin

Thanks Civilman,I wish i'd kept count of how many shotgun shell caps i dug this year lmao...i just couldn't resist them ya know? even when i KNEW it was gonna be a cap. I pitched a ton of them and noticed when i was spreading out the "junk pile" there were a bunch of them in there. Maybe this year i'll save em all just for grins ;D

Great presentation, Jerry!!

Congrats on a fantastic year. A lot of good coins and relics.

Wow Jerry, I guess I didn't realize that this was really your first year detectin'!
That's some pretty hardcore stuff there for the first year! Congrats!
I remember several of them well.
I too, gained SO MUCH knowledge from this site, that it made a major difference in my whole approach to detecting. And is a direct cause in me making most of my best finds in the last 2 years.
Hope you have continued success in 09, and beat all your own records!
Congrats on the Awesome year!

Most excellent, Jerry  Yep, you are obsessed...we all are. ;D ;D Hopefully your goals for '09 are filled with many more buried treasures finds. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!!

 RR
