I know this sounds crazy, but what is with all the spider webs. I have been an avid hunter and outdoors person my whole life. You expect to run into them with a certain amount of frequency but it has been unreal this year in Tennessee. I have been hunting a ghost town near the TN River quite a bit the last several weeks to little avail. Very little documentation exists on it's boundaries and the exact location of all the home sites so I have been putting the miles in. Lots of time in the woods and pastures. I at first thought it may be due to the more marshy areas I have been in around the river but they are way out of the norm everywhere. Maybe the mild winter has increased the food source for them but something is different. Started scouting for bow season and the same everywhere. Mentioned it to a fellow hunter and he fell out laughing. He and his wife ride 4 wheelers often in the area and both of them had just discussed they had never seen anything like it. Weird year here in TN.:dontknow:

I have noticed an increase in ticks as well TNGUNS.

A friend of mine was out quadding in Louisiana for work one day when He ran thru a Brown Recluse web. Wound up hospitalized and in a lot of pain with some nasty scars to show for it.

Lot's of webs here in VA too. More than usual I mean. Allways had a lot around here but this year is nuts.

Post a pic of "spideer webs"........are they in fact spider webs.......I have noticed much that looks like spider webs but upon closer examination, they are definitley NOT spider webs..........it is a web like, white, irregular outline, different sizes, lying on top of grass, etc......

Well I believe there is an increase in bugs because the winters are not getting cold enough to kill them off. I myself love it when the winters aren't too cold but in reality if it doesn't reach those frigid temperatures we will have more bugs living though the winter.

doc-d, there is no doubt they are spider webs. Actually looked them up and believe many are the spotted orbweaver. VERY heavy thick strands in the web. They are all around the house as well. Actually creeped the daughter out by catching moths etc around the porch light and tossing them into ones web. Amazing the speed and efficiency it displayed incapacitating and wrapping them up.

I've always had to deal with spiderwebs...

Common thing for a relic hunter woodsie type.

Just gotta keep an extra "eye" out for them.

I've had some close saves, but I have also walked face first into some really sticky ones. At that point best thing to do is slowing back away and hope for the best...

Came across this huge garden spider the other day.

spiderweb (2).webp How about this web?

They're mostly jumping spiders' (family Salticidae). Enjoy them as they're beneficial. They eat anything that crawls or flies. They will bite (nonvenomous) if you mishandle one, but most of the time they just crawl across your hand because it is warm.

That looks like the yellow orb weaver. Saw a few around here in Md last year. Frank...

I have noticed a lot of single web lines across the trails on my place in Md. I walk my dog, blue, every morning thru about one mile of trails in 10' high brush. It has gotten so bad that I made a 7' walking staff that I hold out in front of me as I walk to break the webs. The webs are also thicker than usual. Most of the webs are about face high. Frank...
