Always a nice place to go hang out in the spring time before runoff. Back in the 80s I used to help out an old timer one of those guys were you just kept your mouth shut and listened you probably know the type. We found the tail race to that flume was very fine flower Gold and boy there was a lot of it their main problem was they were blown it out the end of the tail race to much flow.. So they set up with mercury coated on copper plates to catch it he knew this, we got some gold and a lot of mercury to recovered. Boy that was a lot of fun back in them days you didn’t have to worry about anybody bothering you.

I wonder if they did the same hydraulic method at today's gold prices if it then wouldn't be a profitable Placer operation?

Its hard to say because it is high bed placer gravels running 10 foot to 80 foot thru that canyon. The old timer was using a trommel and then he had a contraption that he built that was like a hydralic jig. He was always fighting with it but once he had it dialed it worked good it is so fine gold it got really ground down coming out of Tellhelluride. You know that gold runs thru there all the way to the Colorado river we actually worked both ends of that river. Like Tony Beets say drill drill drill then you would know were it is at. Back then it really didn't matter know if you did that they would swarm down on you like you wouldn't believe. LOL

Oh yeah, it be a major uproar if someone was to even mention the idea of a large scale Placer option in that canyon, let alone just a guy with a shovel and pan, as even that is considered a greedy land raping bad person by some.

Some time ago I stopped a little future north to have a look over the Canyon and saw what looked like big fish swimming on the surface of then very murky water. Turned out to be some otters. Had my super zoom Panasonic ZS40 camera and got a few pictures of them just going about their business. It was pretty neat watching them as they had no clue there were eyes on them from above.

That's pretty neat cyzak.
