Hi All,

Mojo’s post asking about a few posters from the past finally inspired me to post these thoughts I have had for a while.

Which stage are you in? I am in #4 I think because I am not finding enough to be in #3.

1st Discovery
Got done reading my regular T-Net forum and browsed around and found this one. There’s still silver and other old coins to be found in circulation?

2nd Me Too
Wow I can order boxes of coins and find silver and other oldies. Now it’s my turn.

3rd Hey Everyone, Check it out.
Look what I am finding!!! I am just like you, look at this loot.

4th Oh No, I’ve created a monster
Uh Oh, others in my area found out about this hobby by reading this forum and are cutting in on some of my action. It’s time to quiet down about my finds.

5th Time to get rid of the competition.
Hmm, maybe if I post about how bad all of my boxes are it will discourage the competition. I need to be more negative.

6th Lurking, Lurking
Time to stop posting all together and become a Lurker. The less said the better.

Your thoughts?

Happy Hunting,

Scott (MI)

Edit: I think stages sounds better then my original Ages of..

I think there is a bit of truth in your stages of CRHer growth, but when you get to the point that you are getting lots of skunk boxes in your hunting, you will see that stage 5'ers don't need to lie about how crappy their boxes have become from their earlier days of success.

I don't think reading about others' bad luck will stop a CRHer. Their own personal lack of success may though.

I would say I am #3 with a very small amount of #4.

I also must say that I fully agree with Jim in that it would take my own sustained lack of success in order for me to stop this hobby and not other people's bad stories.

I also don't think competition would cause me to alter my posts here or how I carry out the hobby to any real degree, and certainly not cause me to become a "lurker".

If they want to join in, thats fine, and I know I can't stop them. There will always be handrolls to search at one bank or another, though less if others join in. And boxes can always be ordered no matter how many other people are doing it too (Though that always ordered bit is contested at the moment as some of my banks are trying to slap me with 20-30 dollar fees PER BOX ordered due to "shipping"... still need to look into this hog-wash).

I didn't see me in there. Exactly. More like a 4+ but not a 5. Maybe a 4.5.....LOL. I still tell what I find, I just want to destroy the competition in my area. Squash them like a bug. I want it all.

Although I think I would have to categorize myself as a 3, I was never a 1 and my days of being a 2 were back in the 80's when I was only a kid.

I also don't ever see myself ever getting past stage 3 as I like to share my hobby with others. Yes, it might mean I have fewer finds, but so be it. Now granted, I don't shout it out to the world as their are certain types of folks who I would rather didn't know of my hobby for security reasons, but I have told countless individuals about it over the years. IMO The hobby is more fun when you share your successes and failures with other people with the same interests, finding this board only increased my enjoyment of a hobby I already had.

Regarding reducing the number of finds by telling people.. I haven't really noticed much of a drop of finds from when I started until now, but I don't just concentrate on halves and silver like most folks here either so that may be part of the reason. I also almost never get boxes (I think I picked up maybe 10 boxes this year of all denoms combined and I've looked through well over 1 million coins).

Got a box yesterday. Found 12 of the 40%ers, 2 Franklins and a 64. Guess I'm still a 3.
