Use this link to youtube, Sorry to those on a dial up connection.

I found this on a recon mission in the Mother Lode outside of Jackson, CA on BLM Land. I am pretty sure this is cast steel not cast iron because the gear box (or whatever it should be called) was broken open like an egg shell and did not look like a cast piece.

That shaft is 4 inches in diameter. What was the purpose of this component. This was part of a lode mine closed in 42, I think.

Is this worth anything?

Fixed your link so others can see it more easily. All you need to do was press 'enter' after the link to hyperlink it.

Welcome from the UK :hello:

I guess it might be worth something to the right person, someone fixing an old one up & missing a wheel. But its probably worth the same as the scrap metal value.
Roll it out of there :laughing7:

It is a flywheel for something?? What is the diameter of the wheel?? It does not appear to be from an old engine, but probably from an ore crusher. Note the ridge in the center of the face (outside surface). That is called the crown. That made the belt stay on. Hard to tell because this setup was use on a lot of machinery. Tony

It's a flywheel, but until you show what may be the crankshaft or remais of one, it is impossible to tell if it is an engine flywheel or one used for another purpose (crusher, etc.) It is drilled for a wide belt pulley on the side spokes, as most engine flywheels were.
