Quality of the USPS To go Down in May Again

The post office has been cutting costs, reducing work hours, and has asked Congress to ease requirements for advance funds for retiree benefits and to allow mail to be delivered five days a week instead of six.

Yep - And man are they pushing the stamps that are "good for ever".

We have the 'forever' stamps here as well.. Normal postage for a letter in Canada is 59 or 60 cents, and goes up every year the second week of January like clockwork.. I just stock up on the 'forever' stamps before the annual increase..

I Just switched from Mail

to Internet to pay my Cable & Cell Phone bills

If I can find an alternative for my Electric & Life Ins.

I Won't need stamps at all

What will they do then ? Charge .50 for every letter they Deliver ?

I work for UPS so I thought you might find this a little interesting. UPS has a law suit against the post office for years because of the price that usps charges to ship a box is way to low to turn a profit. They loose $ when you ship a box with them and subsidize that by increasing the cost of stamps every year. They lost $7.9 billion last year. They need competition.

I don't pay any bills by mail.. My online banking has my Electric bill/property taxes/water/etc.. and my Life/house ins, is deducted automatically from my account every month. I don't know if it's available in the U.S., but I can also pay anyone that has a email address using my online banking and Interac. Interac sends them a notice, the amount, a security question, and a link to 'their' online banking site where they can choose whatever account they want it deposited in.. It allows my customers to send me payment for their order, without using credit cards, which saves me 3-5% in merchant fees.. The only thing I ever mail is packages to my customers, because U.P.S. is too darn expensive in Canada
