This years address is presented by Woody Digit, the Detectorist Universal Governor. (D.U.G.)
My fellow digaholics we have just endured one of the most difficult periods in the history of our brotherhood. All of us whether it be directly or indirectly have been touched by the pandemic. With the lock downs and travel restrictions one could only dream of getting out to swing the coil of our choice. Too boot no one was out and about losing items on the beaches, on the paths, in the fields and in the water. On the bright side it gave us time for reflection and research of those long forgotten sites.
As stated in previous addresses our rank and file has swelled dramatically. Just a reminder to us long time veterans it is our sworn duty to remind any newbie that we may encounter in the field of the code of ethics, answer any question and generally treat them with respect. No question put forward should be considered stupid and should be answered to the best of your ability. Please stress or demonstrate the proper plug technique as with all things we have a few "misguided" individuals that leave an ungodly mess. This reflects poorly on the lot of us. Always try and leave an area better than you found it.
On a bright note this has been an outstanding banner period for public relations as many of our brethren have assisted law enforcement, returned rings, found property markers for land owners and answered just just about every cry for help from the general public.
May this coming renewed times of freedom (limited but getting there) be full of good outings with your digging mates, times of self satisfaction and the occasional "Oh my dear Lord" finds. Be safe.
