Beach & Shallow Water Hunting
Which is preferable for wetsand/shallow water? I am in NC so us east coast beaches from NC-NJ.

Which angle is best? My RTG is angled and I like that so I assume the 20 degree is what I want.

What about their other options? ie handle mounting, support bars, hole size? handle, life assist?

Get the biggest scoop you can afford.

Straight Stealth 720i with there ash handle is best I've used for digging 15-20" deep holes

I read your question again, so many posts on scoops I didn't realize you where asking about the angle, sorry. I prefer the 20 degree angle as I find myself not bending over as much. As far as reinforcement points you can never have too many, at the expense of weight of course.

I prefer the 720 also. I find it easier to stab into the ground without having to bend over as much. I got the wooden handle and lift assist handle from Sunspot too. The wooden handle is holding up nicely now after 2 years of constant use. I got the lift handle a few months after the scoop. It lasted about 9 months before it broke the first time....cracked right in the middle of the hand grip. I installed a bolt and nut through the handle to repair it and it worked for another few month until it broke again at the base where it clamps to the wooden handle. No fixing it in this location, so, I got a lift assist handle from Home Depot and am very happy with it so far after about 9 months of use. It's more adjustable and seems (so far) to be a bit heavier duty. Time will tell though. I also added some bath tub anti-slip friction strips to the wooden handle to help get a better grip when it gets wet. That works real well too, but, it's pretty hard on your t-shirt if you sling the scoop over your shoulder! Let me know if you'd like some photos of mine.

Thanks for the advice. I am really torn between the two sizes.

7". Is great all purpose. I feel the 9" would be more specialized for maybe chest, neck deep. Using the 7 from dry to waist deep works well for me. When im at chest deep i wish i had more scoop!

I have and use both the 720i and the 920iX. I prefer the 920iX due to the additional coverage in terms of width. It covers my 10" coil almost exactly. However the 720 has a longer/deeper initial bite.

My 720 has the 1/4" holes on the back and 3" of the floor which traps the smaller targets very well in our fine Florida sand. My 920 has the 1/8" slots in the back and I've installed 1/4" screen on 4" of the floor to also trap those small targets. I also found that the "rugged option" on my 920 was well worth the cost.

Both scoops will last my lifetime and with Chuck's lifetime warranty, I have full confidence that I'll never need another scoop.

As for handles, my 720 utilizes the u-bolt attachment with wooden handle while my 920 has the tube design with a carbon fiber shaft making the 920 lighter.

Love them both but again, I prefer the 920 with carbon fiber shaft...

As always...that's just the view from my foxhole.

Do you use the 9 in the wetsand/shallow water as well? I am more concerned with width over depth. With my 5 inch I am digging like 2 holes next to each other and that really the worst part.

I use the 920 in both wet sand and water. It is absolutely great in both...for me anyway. Others I'm sure have different preferences.

720i Stealth.webp720i 920iX 1.webp 920i I too like the angled handle.

Yea I like the angled. I am leaning towards the 9 inch too at this point.

I used to until I tried the 90 degree 720i. Just flip a coin on the 9 or 7"!

In hunting out in the water, I find depth more important than width. Also, if I'm a bit off on my pin pointing, it's usually the north/south axis and not the east/west axis. I know, I probably shouldn't be so lazy as to not turn 90 degrees and re-pin point but when waves are hitting you, you tend to want to hurry and get the target while you've got it covered. Whichever Stealth you get, it's a top notch piece of gear.

9 inch ordered. Thanks all for the tips and help.

I had the 8 classic then upgraded to the 920 with 20 degree and the slots in the back, if I had to do over I would opt for the 1/4 holes on the bottom and the ask about smaller slots it seems that pull tabs manage to slide right out the slots. but earrings don't so that is a plus. I have the wood handle and will upgrade to carbon fiber in about two more rings or about a month of digging clad... I really like the width, when I have the 6 inch coil on the CTX even a rookie like me can't miss... :)

I like the way Chuck widened the scoop and shortened the height........ it should reduce the stress on the front top of the scoop by clearing the scoop faster.
