That is insane that you don't find a little silver. I will sell you a box, lol.

Happy hunting,

Steven

1 out of 130,000 coins is about as rough as it gets. It sure helps put my last 3 weeks of mostly lousy boxes in perspective. And it's strange how you guys have had such completely different results but that just shows how unpredictable and uncertain this hobby can be.

Yupper. Last 100+ boxes were ALL buffaloboy/infowars dumps. I've found well over 100, most of the marked coins were marked by both. They were all last searched by info in december. When will the batch ever end?!?!? Pennies from brinks and nickels from everywhere have been good though. Last week, picked up 20 rolls of cents... best 20 rolls I've gotten so far, as it yielded 26 Wheaties (3-10s, 3-20s, 6-30s, 7-40s, 7-50s). Was fun opening them with my dad. Only 2 of the rolls had no wheats. Strangely enough, only 201 coppers out of the 20 rolls though!

I'm in PA as well, and I get a BuffaloBoy in every other box. The ones I'm getting now are also from around December/January. The pair of them do a huge volume between them. You might be better off to pick up from a different carrier if they're both dumping into your stream.

Sorry to hijack your thread StevePa. Keep the silver production going!

Finding silver in 7 out of your last 8 boxes is great hunting! Hope you can keep the 7 box silver streak going a while longer. And congrats on finding over 50 ozs so far this year. So far my only silver for the week has been a lone '67 ender in my last box. But one's better than nothing.

Yeah I agree, I'm happy with anything I can find lately. Btw, I just noticed you have now found 50 x 90% and 240 x 40% this year and have an exact 2 keeper half box (or $500 searched) average from your halves so far this year. Those are great numbers too. I've lost track of my box average lately but I had a decent 2 -3 silver per half box average the first 6 months of the year but since my boxes haven't been producing as good the last 7 weeks or so my box average is probably between 1 - 2 silver per box for the year now. Good luck to both of us the rest of the year.

I have been blessed with a nice silver streak here and lots of 1964 this week. Another great week with over 5oz of silver. Ended with 7 90%, all 1964, and 17 40%. Over 300 silver halves this year so far.

Great boxes Steve! That third box was a dandy. I see the rolls you search are the yellow String & Sons wrappers that I do as well. Do you mind if I ask whether the boxes you get are the flat ones with the holes in the top, and if so have you noticed any trends with the 4-digit stamps on the bottom?

Congrats on more great boxes and finding over 300 halves so far this year. You're up to an 11 box silver streak now which is great. I think my last decent silver streak was 9 boxes in late June. Hope you can keep the streak going with more good boxes next week.

Thanks guys. My boxes are the flat style and I have had the same code over this streak. I do however get many codes overall and have had the same code be a skunk for a week or two and then produce silver later.

I have been enjoying this hobby for over two years and mostly do mwr boxes of halves. Despite all my efforts to figure out how the silver works, I have no clue. I order from the same bank each week and dump at the same bank a few hundred yards away. Some weeks the silver is there and others not but as long as you are looking you will find something. There must constantly be people dumping silver into circulation through collection dumps, grandpas stash or some other means.

Either way it has been a fun ride and I will keep at halves until they stop producing.

Good luck guys and happy hunting.

Just like you, Steve, I've often wondered where the silver comes from. I figure it comes mainly from careless people that dump old stashes of coins into Coinstar machines. Here in my area there is a Coinstar machine in every grocery store. It blows my mind how careless people are. Who in their right mind would be dumping old Franklin and Walking Liberty halves into a Coinstar machine. It also blows my mind that people routinely break open proof sets and dump them into circulation. I'm not complaining, obviously, because they are supplying the nice finds that make the hobby fun. Apparently, a huge percentage of the American population has a big old bucket of change that sits around for years. Then, when grandpa dies, the careless grandkids dump it at a Coinstar machine and use the proceeds to buy video games, fast food or marijuana. Keep on dumping you people!

Another good week with some older halves and one especially good box. I also included the various foreign coins I have pulled from the coin machine reject trays over the last few weeks. Today I pulled my first 1943 Steel wheat penny from the reject tray. Happy hunting.

Congrats on another week of good boxes. You're almost up to 60 ozs of silver now. And you're still doing great with the 90% halves too. I found my first '43 steel wheat in a coin counter a couple of weeks ago also. Good luck the rest of the year.

Steve, glad to see they are still producing down the road. Still skunk city here (back to 5 a week, hoping that they will produce by the end of the year). Nickels are still good, averaging about 4 wars and 4 buffs every 5 boxes. Pennies are also good, averaging well over 15 wheats and 25% copper. Also, the coin machines at my dump banks have been great... found a 14k 0.48 gram earring this week and a few ikes.

Keep getting boxes while you are in that batch number. I've had 2 batch numbers out of the last 150 boxes... one (110 boxes) has produced 0 and the other (40 boxes) has produced 3 40%s. Brutal!

It's interesting that you've found even more Walkers than Franklins.

Those are some brutal numbers. Maybe you should think about switching pickup banks. My boxes don't have any sort of numbers on them. My boxes are Brinks, and I've wondered where the coins come from--maybe from the zillions of Coinstar machines around my city. There's some really good stuff that gets dumped into those Coinstar machines. When it comes to trying to figure out how the system works, I have a lot to learn.
