Stingray question. Used pricing

This is before the Stingray II and Tiger Shark. If it works perfectly it might be worth $100. no more. Use to find gold chains and bird shot too. Would need new O ring for sure and at that age the clamps may need replacing. Luckily Tesoro might be able to repair it.

Good Luck,

Thanks sandman, the guy is asking $300 and I was thinking it was high. I'm going to go for a fisher 1280x

The Fisher 1280-X is still a nice detector and built like a tank. Only 3 knobs and very simple to use. One bit of advice. Since it is a silent search detector, if you turn it off to talk to someone don't forget to turn it back on when you start hunting again. You will like it. It may false some in the wet sand where there is black sand too so just turn down the sensitivity a might and you will still do well. Don't use Lithium batteries either as you will get over 60 hours on regular alkalies.

Good Luck,

I had one of those old Fisher 1280-X machines, and it was awesome. Wish I had kept it.

this may be a really dumb question but why does it have head phones if it is slient?
Thanks

There are no dumb questions. by silent it means it has no threshold hum and still beeps when you get a target. :laughing7:

One more question for you Sandman, I have narrowed it down to the Fisher 1280x or the Tesoro Sandshark. Which would you get? I'm going to use it mostly in fresh water but do want to be able to take it to the salt at times. Thanks for all your sharing of knowledge.

Both would be fine for freshwater, though I wouldn't like to use a PI in freshwater. In saltwater both can be unstable depending on the location with the amount of salt concentrations and black sand. It isn't the same all over the globe. You can always turn down the sens and the Sand Shark has almost no disc. Get the 1280 with the larger coil for covering more ground per sweep, but the smaller coil works better in the saltwater at more locations because of the stability thing. Larger coil goes deeper however so it is a toss up.

Go with the Sand Shark unless you are going to be in a trashy area. It's a PI machine, salt and black sand won't be a problem. The downside is no discrimination.

What does everyone think of the Stingray II? Was it the last model before the Tiger Shark?
