Any signs of wear at the top of ring. Where leather strap would have gone. It looks like perhaps a stirrup. It may be too rusted to see any signs of prolonged use though. Nice find..I would say probably early stirrup myself..

Some stirrups (steels) were made without an eye ring, so what you may have found may be in its original form.

Sorry, I cannot offer a date. Unfortunately I have several myself that cannot be dated...or I just havn' found the correct source.

The dimensions though, appear to be unusually large, and not as refined as todays. Shoes and boots today are less bulky and clumsy. Not everyone wore boots in past times.
