Old. And used for an extended period it looks like with the sheen and smoothness to the edges. Great piece you have there.

That is a Beautiful stone axe! :icon_thumleft:
Welcome to TNet mikegp, from Nick in CT! :hello:

That’s a nice grooved ax you’ve got there!

That’s a really nice grooves axe .... a few more pics would help. Does the groove go all the way around ? 3/4? Additional pics and if there’s any points or other artifacts that were found in close proximity it may help give you a time period / age.

A few more pics. The groove does go all the way around.

Also, I'm probably seeing things but on the first pic I posted if you look at the lower right side face there seems to be some faint etched lines that make some right angles. You need to zoom to see it.

My vivid imagination sees someone's mark . Haha!

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Very nice indeed. The full groove ax was the oldest of the grooved kinds. Eventually they made a groove that went only 3/4 the way around, and then in the wood land period they made celts, with no grooves. This ax is several thousand years old.

Amazing artifact!
