Stone button?

I didn’t find but ran into someone who found it in a stream bed , he said it felt like stone , and it did , it looked like a pebble on the back , idk idk ,could it be clay ? Style looks 1700’s to me but any info would help, thanks

The design is too intricate to be carved, looks pinched
On the reverse side.

Mostly likely black glass worn down by sand.

Search for "Czech" glass button die.

Apparently the Czechs were very proliferant
at making button dies.

Humm, yeah ,it wasn’t really heavy like a pebble, thinking your right , black glass, tumbled, thanks, gona do more research

An easy "material" test:
If it's made of glass a knife cannot nick it, but will nick hard-rubber.

It certainly looks like hard rubber, so it being a Goodyear Button makes sense.
