sharpening gouges and adzes. Also probably used for sharpening bone tools.Do any of you folks that are in the range of gouge and adze usage find these?I know that covers a wide range.

They remind me of the core that is left over inside a piece of cane when stone is drilled.
Seems logical they would be put to use for something.

Here is a rock that I found at my dig site. I believe it was used to sharpen awls/bone tools. It has a sandpaper feel to it.

Looks like it would do the trick.I have a sharpening stone. They had to be used for that very thing..

They are cool , what ever they were used for could be anyone's guess:thumbsup:

Well i have wondered about them for a few years. So i got ahold of an archeologist that was his oppinion.

I found what i thought was a stone rod on the river and come to find out it was a battery core that was weathered. It was not cool like yours. You guys had the wood working tools.

Found my share of those tmnts. These rods had to be of different diameters i believe to be effective on these larger tools.

Those are some neat artifacts. I haven't seen much like that around here but the half buried battery cores do get your heart rate up for a minute. Hate those things.

I hear ya there...If they were worth something id be rich.

Very cool. Never seen em around here.
