it is safe to say 100 years plus a few. These big ones were common before refrigeration for storing food especially on farms. It would be typical to lay up beef or pork in chunks, covered by lard and layered all the way to the top. It would have had a cover too. Grandpa also used a 12 gallon one to brew his beer in, pretty easy to do. It was key to keep these things clean before use.
 

the bottle looks like a ink , it looks to small to be a ginger beer.
