Strange Box of pennies

I got a String Box of pennies on Saturday. About 15 rolls were uncirculated 1964 or 1962. Several rolls were full 1964 no other years. How did this happen? Someone dumped bags of 1964? I went back to the banks in the same area and tried to get more boxes but was unable to.

I wish I was a copper hoarder! The source says that 1964 has a DDR. I probably will look through and then dump them.

I would think you should be able to get at least melt ($.02 each) for those coins easy - maybe even from a coin shop. May be just as easy as dumping and you'd be getting twice face.

I'd even pay up to $.02 each for unc copper cents myself - or at least $.015 each (1.5 x face) .

Interesting !I dumped a shi# load of pre 1982 pennies a month ago!I wonder if you got my dump no joke!Possible odds they were my dump!I gave up on saving pre 82 post 1958 pennies.

Interesting find. If they are really uncirculated I'd set a few aside at least, but maybe that just me. We've been finding a lot of really nice 60's and 70's pennies started this a month or so ago. These were rare to come across 10+ years ago when I used to do this as a kid. We were figuing that the economy has been making people clean out their coin jars, although in your case looks like they may have cleaned out a whole closet to get that many in a roll. =)

Are pennies still considered "uncirculated" if they are found in a box of cents from the bank. Seems to me they are circulateing now. I would think they are AU. Just wonderin'.

I myself recently came across several rolls of cents with 1962 AU coins inside but they were mixed with all other coppers and zincs. I pulled out several because of their beautiful condition. These few could have very well come from the same source as yours.

i should really read the title more carefully because i thought he found uncirculated rolls of 1964 and 1962 dimes. i reread the title and then saw he said pennies.
