I got it at a garage sale done the road yesterday $3 . The lady said she thought she had a box to it and I could check back in a few days . After taking these pics , I found the battery compartment . it takes 6 double A . Could it be some sort of Detector for finding "long distant" treasure ? ! ?

Just joking. You could sell it as a LRL (Long Range Locater for treasure)

It couldnt be any worse than the LRL's on the market. :D We used to have an LRL forum here but I cant find it anymore. I guess it falls under Dowsing lol. Actually I like your find. You could market it and start selling it as an LRL.  The window can either say null, gold, silver or diamonds. :icon_thumright:

Even if it doesnt locate treasure, its still a neat find. You get a lot of cool stuff.

It is a device for boaters to use for coast wise navigation. Nautical charts have the locations and frequencies of radio stations and some lighthouses also broadcast a radio signal.

You aim the device towards a radio signal source and find the strongest signal. Note the direction on the compass. You then transfer that line to your chart, starting at the radio tower that is the source. You do this three times. Three signal sources and three lines on the chart. Where all the lines cross is where your vessel is.

GPS has made that type of navigation obsolete. But you never know when something like that may come in handy on a small boat.
