Hello All,

Would love to know what this piece is. Dug in a Civil War site that was near a Plantation home. Quarter for size reference. Bottom looks broken, but also threaded on the inside. Hole does not go all the way through the shaft. Large hole in the ball on top does go all the way through.

Looks like part of a gas (cock)valve, for a gas light. Tony

Could it be a door knocker missing the ring? HH

Something like this?

I was going by the big hole, which looks tapered, and the small hole inside. It would have to go all the way, because it would have to be bored from the bottom? Just my idea. Tony
But the hole in the bottom doesn't go all the way through :icon_scratch:

Maybe an end piece to a small brass railing from a piece of furniture?

Maybe it was mounted on a post where you would tie up your horse. Missing the ring of course.
