1860's Barn Site Three of Same thing ...

I didn't think too much about finding one of these but now there are three from the same site. They are all slightly different in size and one is pretty deteriorated. The recessed area in the back is threaded. I wonder what these could have been used for???

This property has been used since the 1850's so it's possible to be more modern.

Hi Winslow,
those are the ends of gun powder flasks, I think called the "measure" or charger, circa 1850-70. I've found a few.

They are brass tops to a Blackpowder shooter's powder-flask and/or shot-flask. That type dates from the early to mid 1800s. (But much-later Reproductions do exist... and can still be purchased today at Blackpowder Shooting Supplies stores.) See photos below.

Caprock and I were typing at the same time. Mine took a few minutes longer, due to the photos. :)
