So I have had this piece of meteorite or possibly a precious metal. The size is decent, but the weight of It is 3 times it’s size. It’s NON magnetic, it doesn’t corrode, rust. I found it and it was that dark oxidized color then used my air grinder with a 60grit pad and took the top layer off. I did this about 12 years ago. To this day the color has not changed. I have taken it to a pawn shop they did the acid tests and nothing showed up. So with it not being magnetic even tried a magnet for magnet fishing and nothing. Not corrosive or oxidizing other than what it naturally has on it. What could it be? It’s also 3 times is weight you would never expect it to be so heavy.

Did you or can you do a streak test? That would help.

I have not done one and do not have the porcelain to do it. Maybe I will see if amazon has a kit. Do you have any ideas on what you may think it could be?
Yea, but I hate guessing in the dark. Somebody else might.
Google streak test. It is simple and pretty sure you can find what you need at Lowe's or Home Depot. Good luck.

Reading on it says it’s a gem stone. This when you see and feel it in person can tell it’s a metal and not a gem stone, but it could be 🤷🏼‍♂️ Lol
May I suggest you study a bit more on what gemstones are. And about this stone. May not be markasite. But with limited data stab in the dark And good luck with your stone.

The streak test just requires an unglazed tile if I remember correctly. The unglazed back of a regular floor tile will serve.

Really important to an ID to know the exact weight in grams or ounces, and the dimensions, width, length and thickness. A general area of where it was found is helpful too. What do you suspect it is? Hope it is?
