Maybe depicting cupid and psyche the items on the ground are a bow and a torch and the statue up behind the woman Is a soldier with a spear maybe.Strange picture a lot of symbolism just need to put all together to figure out the meaning I thought the woman was a gypsy but the torch could be something she held, but definitely not lady liberty.very cool.

she is not wearing a juggy containment garment. cupid is either being held in or about to be let out_______________in/out, in/out, in/out-------I'm sad or happy-------love is the ultimate comedy, or is it tragedy----so confused

I appears Roman or Greecian. There is a child on the other side of that door. I look at the statue in the shadows on the upper right and that looks roman. I think sandals are also Roman

It's not a photograph, its an illustration or perhaps a painting. The item with the bow is cupid's quiver. According to the link below, the image was used on a tobacco crate label around 1860.

My interpretation of the image is that of a woman taking control of her own heart or desires.
