I found it in a pile of rocks in Portales, NM. But... I don't know where it was originally found. Thanks for the heads up on the Geological forum.

Cheese is correct... definitely fossilized coral. More specifically, it is fossilized coral-colony, rather than a species of "individual" coral (such as Tetracoralla). A Paleontologist at a college's Geology department might be able to identify the coral species in your mystery-rock.
