Found this while detecting in the woods. Appears to be a prescription bottle taped with camouflage tape to an eye ring that is tied to a line up in the hollow of the tree.

I didn't open it, but returned it back into the hallow. Any idea what this is?

Quite odd indeed.

Most likely, left from a mad hatter

Somebody's secret stash for SOMETHING. That was made to be hauled up into the hollow tree so as not to be seen by anybody walking by. I bet if you check further up the tree, you will find the top of that rope with a knot in it. I can't believe you didn't look into the cup? Come on? What's in there?

It's most likely a geocache. Most likely only has a paper logbook inside for the finders to record the date found and their geocache handle.

I've found a few of those geocaches before, usually Tupperware big enough for a small notebook and pens. This is like a large prescription bottle. I really don't want to find someone's drug stash or something. I could only here the iron tone, so I don't think it's filled with gold or silver, but it was a jumpy tone...hmmm.

Some geocaches are smaller than your thumb, some are bigger than a .50 cal ammo can with everything in between. I can almost guarantee you it is a geocache just from the description.
