Many years ago I read a post online about a guy who found a coin inside a bottle cap.
It might have been this forum.
So ever since then everytime I get a bottle cap I scrape the dirt out of it just in case. It became a habit with me and I don't really thing about it. Plus the dirt doesn't go in my pocket because I save everything that I'm going to throw away in my front left pocket.
Well today I dug up a piece of 2 inch pipe. It was full of dirt and the story came back to me. I was thinking, this would be cool if something was inside here. Of course there was nothing but dirt in there and I tossed the pipe in the bushes. That wasn't going in my pocket.
Then about 10 minutes later I dug up this bottle cap with a dime in it. I was like, wow wee I can't believe this just happened for the first time ever right after I was thinking about the story of the other guy who found the coin.
Strange things happen...

I did find a token once which was inside of two plastic bottle caps pressed together. But this is different. A fluke.

Also picture are my last 5 rings. The silver one is ring 69.

Nice ring your holding at the bottom :icon_thumright:
I have found coins in caps on occasion, But being I throw all digs
in a Sack till I get home, I'm never sure they were there
when I dug. I have found coins rapped in foil also.

anyway Cool Beans :notworthy:

Nice finds. I never thought to check bottle caps, but I might start.

That's really cool about finding a coin in a bottle cap. I never would have thought to look there. Did I understand correctly that you threw the pipe into the bushes after you dug it? If so, maybe it was at your own home. Its always a good idea to haul away any trash that gets dug up!

Interesting story and now ya got me thinking. I've been able to pretty consistent at figuring out those bottle caps with the AT Pro and haven't been digging a lot of them, but you've put a spin on things. Not sure what the chances are but ya never know. I gotta tell ya the one part of your story you really need to reconsider is the throwing the Pipe in the bushes thing. Yeah you don't have to carry it around in your pocket but, you could always go back and remove it when you leave. If that's not your thing then I would at lest not post it for the public to read. No offence just saying. The Anti's don't need any fuel for anything.

I remove more trash than anyone else I've ever hunted with. I'm the guy always bugging them to not throw stuff on the ground. I tossed a piece of two inch wide pipe in the bushes.. Big deal.. Nobody can see it.. Nobody saw me toss it.. Get over it..

I found a penny in a plastic bottle cap,in my front yard,I was wondering why my detector was beeping when I dug up it up.I threw it to the side and then I noticed a penny mixed in there with the dirt.

Nice attitude. I guess if no one sees you throw trash in the bushes, then it didn't happen. Sadly there are too many folks out there giving our hobby a bad reputation--like some of the people that you detect with. I was taught how to metal detect by my grandfather quite a few years ago. He told me and my brothers that if we dug out a piece of trash, we were responsible for carrying it away. Seemed like a pretty good piece of advice.

Apparently some of the people who come to this site are perfect. I'm sorry if I don't live up to your grandfathers standards.
You don't have a clue how good I am for the hobby.
How I show strangers how a coin can be extracted out of the ground and leave virtually no trace.
How I spend time with them and answer their questions even when I'd rather be left alone. 0424131803c.webp0424131803.webp0424131802.webp0424131803a.webp0424131821.webp
Whenever I see a shredded can I pick up the pieces.
I dig objects I know are bottle caps and pull tabs just so other detectorists don't dig a hole there. That's good practice anyway. Sometimes there's a surprise waiting for you.
I'm not going to defend myself any more on this.
All I can say is some people should never be picked for jury duty. Especially when they jump to conclusions without all the evidence.
You've sucked the life out of me.
People like you are bad for the hobby because you cause people like me to lose their desire to hunt and share what they've found online. I'm not finding this fun anymore.

I've attached some photos of what I ran across yesterday at one of my favorite hunting grounds. This is the problem with the hobby.
My digger is about 13-14 inches long.

I also attached a photo of a hole I dug. It was a quarter at 7 inches. I've spent years developing my method of getting things out of the ground. I don't dig a plug.
Am I the best at it? Of course not. I doubt you are either. But I'm as good as I'm able to be.

I care... You bring people down...
