I was hunting a wooded trail at a local park when I got a signal at the base of a small tree. I started in with my digger but the ground was tough to get into. I took a good jab and my digger sunk right in as there was a crazy "pop" sound followed by a rush of bubbling foam coming from the hole. It weirded me out for a moment before I realized there was an unopened beer can under there that I had broken into. I didn't dig it out because I didn't want to be wandering abound the park at 9am smelling like beer :headbang: Although now I'll admit I am curious how old that beer might have been. :tongue3:

Sorry no photo. I would have loved to catch that on video, really weird to have something foaming out of the hole like that.

Come listen to a story of a man named Jed,
A poor detetectorist, barely kept his family fed.
Got a good signal stuck his digger right through,
and out from the ground came a bubbling brew?

Thats a neat story. Never heard one like that before. I think I would have been a little "weirded" out to.

Great story! I would have freaked a little bit over that one myself!

I wonder. When you first started hearing something hiss up at you from the hole, did you back up real quick? LOL

(No pic....didn't happen. ;) )

Anybody know from experience how deep an unopened beer can sinks in a year? That's wild!

Always put a can above your gold cache to distract those pesky metal detectorist's . 8-)

Hmmm. I might bury a can of shaving cream in a spot my hunting buddy will find it next time out and be ready with the camera. Funny story!

I doubt very Much it was an Old can of Beer if you Got Foam instead of rust.

LOL nice!

LOL I can top that. I was metal detecting in a tot lot and there was a large 99 signal about 8 inches down into the bark. I dug down, dug down, and then hit something with my lesche. When I pulled the lesche free, there was a giant WHOOOSH! sound and all this red bubbling came up like BLOOD, through the bark (fortunately, there was bark OVER the object)... Took about 3 seconds, and I realized I'd hit someones can of PAINT. Some taggers probably buried it when someone came by, then lost it. LOL.

It made such a huge mess in the bottom four inches of the hole, I just quietly scooped some bark over the rest of it and walked away... I don't mind digging out trash, but darned if I'm going to do it while getting red paint over everything... LOL

Lucky you didn't get tagged by that spray can.

Hope I never find a can of pepper spray..........

I hit a full can of beer at the beach years ago and had my head over the hole. Ended up with hot beer and sand in my face.

..........snip!............

Well, I dunno. On my ATP that would ring up as a huge target at that depth. I'm curious, just what did you expect to find in a tot lot? A gold bar? (just so ya know, I happen to know of a case where that was absolutely true!) LOL

It was still in the first month I had the AT Pro. I was still in "digging all signals to learn" mode. :0) Great question, though!

Sometimes, I dig those, just out of curiosity, though. But that was one was still in "learning mode."

But of course, just some leg tuggage. Actually, I still do dig an occasional large target. Even if I figure it's a can. Only way to determine what might be under it. ;)

Found a tree once full of empty beer cans about 50 if i remember when i stopped pulling them out
