"String" boxes? How much do you pay to get your halves?

Please take it easy - nube questions...

1. What are 'string boxes'?
2. Do your banks charge you for ordering coins? What if you are getting a lot of halves ($3k+/week)? Two local bank chains have said that they can't/won't order halves, another bank said that they charge - but haven't gotten back to let me know what the charges are. I've seen several people post that they check tens of thousands of halves per month - are they contracting/paying Brinks or another carrier to deliver directly to their houses? Paying the bank(s)?

I'm currently doing 1-2K per week in halves but I haven't been able to find any bank that will accept bagged dumps - only rolled halves, and rolling 2K in halves gets old pretty quick!! Any advice on what banks accept dumps in the 1k coin bags?

Thanks for sharing!

1. "String" boxes are a bit of a fallacy. "String & Sons" manufacture the coin wrappers - they do not process coins. The main (maybe the only?) coin processors are Loomis, Brinks, Dunbar, and Garda. I know Loomis uses "String" wrappers. Brinks doesn't. I can't say for the others, as I have never seen a Garda or Dunbar roll.

2. I'm lucky in that no bank has ever charged, or even mentioned the word "fee" to me for buying or dumping. However, I typically only find 1 40%er per 2 boxes, so there is no way I would ever pay a fee to do either. If my boxes produced like a couple of posters on here, I would pay a reasonable fee if I had to. All CRHers deal with banks. I have never heard of anyone dealing directly with a courier. I'm fairly certain they only deal with banks/businesses, and I would imagine the fees would be fairly steep.

Shop around. Likely there is a bank near you that will order boxes for free. If not, try negotiating with a bank. Offer to move all your accounts to their bank if they'll order you a few boxes a week. I'd be surprised if one or more won't take you up on that offer. I suggest trying the smaller/local banks first. In my experience, they're usually much more accommodating.

As for dumping, odds are there is a bank that has a free coin counter available. Sometimes these are not self-service in the lobby, but rather they're hiding in a small room behind the tellers' counter. You have to lug your coins to the teller and the teller puts the coins through the machine. All you can do is ask a teller if they have one. Often it isn't an advertised service. If none are available, you'll just have to re-roll if you want to CRH.

As usual, ABM has given you excellent advice.

For me, I would never pay for boxes in my area. They are very skunky...I just ended a 33 box skunk streak.

Several banks have ended my CRH'er activities by charging fees.
I cannot meet my costs while paying fees for boxes or dumping.
